Peace poles are sprouting up around Sherwood, and each one is unique, with "May peace prevail on Earth" appearing in four different languages chose by the facilities where they are sited. One of the peace poles was dedicated at the Marjorie Stewart Community/Senior Center on April 14 in a ceremony led by Thressa Caulkins, center director, and Karen Strickland with the Rotary Club's peace Committee. Rotary Youth Exchange Are you interested in learning a new language or meeting new people? Rotary Youth Exchange is the opportunity of a lifetime. By sharing their own culture and embracing a new one, teen students can help foster global understanding—and learn a great deal about themselves in the process. Youth Exchange is a study-abroad opportunity for young people who spend anywhere from a few weeks to a full year as an international student hosted by local Rotary clubs. The deadline for applying to be an exchange student for the 2017-18 school year is September 15, 2017. Freshmen and sophomores are encouraged to apply; the sophomore year is spent preparing and the junior year is spent abroad. Between the Lines Mission: Between the Lines (BTL) joins with our community partners to promote literacy and strengthen family bonds between incarcerated parents and their children (ages 0-12). Through this program parents read books onto recorders, which are then sent to their children in cd-format along with a new, gift-wrapped book. These children are then able to hear their parents reading at any time and follow along with their own copy of the book...
